Enough already!
Chronic anxiety controls your insides and wrecks every aspect of life on the outside.
Tiny stressors stack, and it feels like the world is ending. There’s so much to do; it all feels big and awful.
Muscles are tight, and your heart is pumping fast like you just ran a mile. A tension headache is surging while you notice your breath is shallow. Thoughts race and are all over the place.
Work has become impossible. Even though you have abilities, it’s tough to focus, and confidence takes a hit. You feel like an imposter and wonder if others notice your performance isn’t good enough.
Relationships are rough. In one moment, you have trouble stating your needs; in another, you’re yelling and demanding they’re met now.
Parenting your teen is like two teenagers in a boxing ring. If only you could stop overreacting, pause, and walk into the other room when things get heated.
And then there’s sleep…. what’s that? You can’t recall the last time you felt rested in the morning.
Let’s bring down the volume.
We can work together many ways; all methods are fluid and flexible. Sessions take different forms depending on what is most needed. We’ll collaborate on what you are most interested in, and I’ll let you know my recommendations. Choices are offered, and all questions are welcome.
If you add neurofeedback in sessions, your brain will get thousands of opportunities to practice improved regulation. You name it – brains operate it all. With gentle reminders and repeated redirections, the brain learns how to self-regulate on its own over time. Bringing mindful attention to the changes felt in each session allows for individualizing the neurofeedback and making changes last.
I bet having electrodes on your head wasn’t what you imagined in a therapy session.
Leave the past in the past.
We might use Brainspotting or EMDR to give the brain space to let go of painful and overwhelming experiences. The distress and activation tagged to painful memories can downshift dramatically within a session.
New beliefs and a sense of ease in the body emerge. I hold a calm, attuned presence throughout the session so that you can process the trauma and move toward new meaning and living without being bogged down by the past.
Sessions are held in compassionate listening.
Infants and children respond best when a steady, calm, and caring adult is present so they can move through big emotions and let them go.
Adults are no different. In fact, research shows that the most effective therapy involves an attuned listener who speaks little and hears much. A present and grounded therapist invites the client to “mirror” that state. Brains are relational!
Anchor in the present.
Mindfulness meditation allows the brain to practice redirecting focus to the moment. It’s an exercise that can be learned and practiced within sessions, reducing stress and improving sleep, immune function, and overall health.
Mindful attunement is offered within sessions, which is imperative for healing. I’ll gently track and note observable changes within sessions to provide a sense of relational connection and integrate the shifts in how you’re feeling.
The client is like the butterfly; the therapist offers a soft place to land.
Calming from the inside.
We might also work with increasing compassionate communication inside to develop clarity in your decisions and calm pieces of yourself that get stuck in the past. All parts matter and will be heard.
Developing specific ways to soothe your insides will be fostered and strengthened and are individualized and unique to you and your needs. This process creates new brain connections that become new habits.
Our time together will feel light and shine with laughter as we build on the tools and abilities you already have and as you gently let go of past wounds.
Hi, I’m Alison.
I’m human, too!
As someone who has experienced her fair share of anxiety, I have also benefitted greatly from the methods I offer. They are tried and true. My first therapy experience was in high school. After just a few sessions, I knew this was my career path. Feeling deeply affirmed and understood was so healing and instrumental.
Brainspotting has developed into my primary offering. Similar to EMDR, it’s a method to deeply process old wounds, intense emotions, and held experiences in the body. Healing happens broadly and fluidly, with gentle guidance throughout.
If you haven’t guessed it already, I’m a training junky. I love learning new therapies and interventions, and I learn through experience. After just a few months, one of my loved ones had great success with ADHD and anxiety with neurofeedback. It’s been exciting to have another method to offer clients over the years, that results in high impact with low effort for clients.
I’ve been on a mission over the years to find the most effective methods to heal chronic anxiety and trauma. Instead of long and slow progress, I sought effective and lasting progress for my clients.
Chronic anxiety doesn’t need to mean chronic therapy!
Healing is possible.
I have the privilege to witness incredible transformations in the people I work with.
Let’s work at the source – your nervous system! After all, brains are in charge of everything and can learn new ways of being. All people can heal, no matter what they have endured.
Anxiety and trauma are my bread and butter. Let’s make them toast!
A calmer life is within reach.
When I’m not working…
I enjoy meditative walks on the nature trail near my home or hiking along the North Shore.
To unwind, I listen to the cardinals and chickadees on my porch or snuggle up with a good book beside my French bulldog, Millie. Yes, she most definitely snores and snorts!
Fall is my favorite season. The colors take my breath away, and bug-free air is a plus!
I also enjoy spending time with my quirky, fun-loving family.
Let’s carve out a new path together!
Worried about trying something new and sharing with yet another provider? I’ve been there. It’s unnerving, to say the least. I’ll meet you with choices, answer your questions, and will honor your story. Share a little or a lot. I’ll listen with a kind ear and a warm smile.
The next step is yours.
